We are happy to cater for vegetarians and other special dietary needs and pride ourselves on our reputation for really good food.

Breakfast
Set yourself up for the day with a traditional Cumbrian farmhouse breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes, black pudding, haggis and fried soda scone.

You can also choose from a range of fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit, porage (served with local honey, cream and Drambuie) and home-baked bread served with local marmalade, preserves and traditionally-made butter.

Or try one of our specialities – Fried Egg Bread with a cream cheese and orange filling, ideal for vegetarians, or creamy scramled egg with smoked salmon or haddock.

Dinner
An evening meal is available by prior arrangement every evening except Sundays and we are licensed to serve wines and drinks.

We usually serve two courses – a main course plus a choice of delicious desserts with seconds and even thirds for those with the heartiest appetites – as well as tea or coffee and mints.

So a typical evening meal might be a leg of succulent local lamb, roasted with garlic and rosemary and served with thyme and onion sauce, gravy, herb roast and new potatoes, orange and honey diced carrots, puree of turnip and parsnip and sliced green beans. This would be followed by a choice of home-made sweets such as raspberry yoghurt cream, peach and passion fruit pavlova or our speciality bread and butter pudding. There would then be the option of our local choice of cheeses and biscuits with coffee and mints to finish.

Other local specialities include excellent local beef, traditionally-reared pork, fresh salmon, a choice of appetising chicken dishes and fresh vegetables in season..
